East and West High School, Bela, Patna, organized a special assembly to commemorate the 145th birth anniversary of the legendary Hindi and Urdu writer, Munshi Premchand. The event was a vibrant celebration of his literary legacy, aimed at familiarizing students with his contributions to Indian literature and his timeless social messages. The highlight of the assembly was a skit based on Premchand’s poignant story Budhi Kaki from his renowned collection Mansarovar, which resonated deeply with the audience.
The skit beautifully captured the emotional depth of the story, highlighting themes of compassion, societal neglect, and the plight of the elderly.
The students portrayed the characters with authenticity, using minimal props and traditional attire to reflect the rural setting of the story. The audience was visibly moved by Budhi Kaki’s struggles and the subtle critique of societal indifference. The performance concluded with a standing ovation and a message from the Director Ma'am about the importance of caring for the elderly in our communities.
